ELECTROTHERAPY

ULTRA-SOUND– high frequency sound waves that have a vibratory massaging effect in the tissues to speed recovery.

INTERFERENTIAL THERAPY– Low frequency electrical impulses to stimulate blood flow, reduce swelling, and relieve pain.

LASER THERAPY– Low level infra-red laser therapy is thought to help with pain, improve circulation and help with lymphoedema.

HEAT– we often use heat packs to relax muscles and ease pain.

ICE– We often apply ice packs to injured tissues to relieve pain and reduce swelling.

TENS-transcutaneous nerve stimulation is used for pain relief by acting on pain fibres to inhibit pain. A low intensity electric current passes through the skin which stimulates the inhibitory pain pathways and also helps with the release of the body’s own opiate like substances. We sell TENS units at Feelfit Physiotherapy. Some private health funds offer rebates for these units.

SHOCKWAVE THERAPY is used for the treatment of chronic conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, calcific tendonitis and other forms of insertional tendinopathy. Shockwave therapy is the high pressured compressed airwaves that travel through the skin to stimulate pain relief and tissue repair. The patient feels a gentle tapping sensation on the skin for the 5-10 minute treatment. Shockwave Therapy (Lithotripsy) was originlly used to treat kidney stones and was later found to be useful for many other conditions.
